We are seeking a Facilities Engineer II to support and optimize critical facility systems across our Emeryville campus. This role partners closely with Operations, Pilot Plant, R&D, Facilities, Maintenance, and Engineering teams to ensure facility infrastructure operates safely, reliably, and efficiently.
The Facilities Engineer II will provide technical support for site utilities and infrastructure, manage facility improvement projects, troubleshoot complex equipment issues, and help drive continuous improvement initiatives that improve reliability, sustainability, compliance, and cost efficiency.
*This is a fully onsite role based in Emeryville, CA.
Responsibilities
Technical Support & Engineering
- Provide technical support for facility systems, utilities, equipment, and infrastructure across the Emeryville site.
- Work closely with Pilot Plant personnel, critical systems personnel, Project Engineers, R&D personnel, and engineering consultants to support projects.
- Provide on-the-floor technical troubleshooting and problem solving.
- Develop and maintain SOPs, technical reports, presentations, system specifications, and user requirements.
- Conduct technical reviews and generate risk assessments as needed.
Facilities Systems
- Support facility systems including HVAC, temperature control systems, air compressors, chillers, cooling towers, fire protection systems, boilers and steam generation, mechanical controls, vacuum systems, and critical environment systems.
- Analyze, develop, improve, and maintain operating mechanical processes to safely function within process specifications.
- Evaluate mechanical, thermal, and electromechanical systems and ensure system quality and reliability.
Projects & Infrastructure
- Support equipment procurement activities, including bid packages, requisitions, and vendor interaction.
- Support the design, installation, and integration of new systems into existing site infrastructure.
- Monitor construction activities to ensure installations meet design requirements and applicable standards.
- Manage small projects to support site operations and facility functionality.
Maintenance & Asset Performance
- Establish and maintain maintenance strategies, practices, and processes to support reliable asset performance.
- Ensure maintenance programs comply with internal and external standards and regulatory requirements.
- Partner with engineering, maintenance, service providers, and client groups to support maintenance programs and practices.
- Assist with maintenance activities and PM program execution.
- Develop and perform technical training programs for technicians.
Safety & Compliance
- Comply with Health and Safety mandates, OSHA requirements, and site safety programs.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 3-5 years of experience in Engineering.
- 2 years of mechanical/electrical systems, clean utilities, dirty utilities, and manufacturing equipment operation and maintenance.
- Effective oral and communication skills, including interaction with State, County, and City officials.
Preferred Qualifications
- Masters degree/MBA in Mechanical Engineering or related Engineering discipline, Facilities Management.
- 2 years of experience with facilities equipment in a biotech, pharmaceutical, or chemical manufacturing environment.
- 1 year of contract administration and operations.
- Working knowledge of facility operations and documentation.
- Thorough knowledge of typical building construction practices and maintenance systems.
Physical Requirements
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, crawl through low spaces, and climb ladders throughout the day.
- Must be able to lift 40 lbs.
The salary range for this role is: $ 89,000 to $114,000.
