Accounting Assistant

We are looking for an Accounting Assistant to support day-to-day financial operations for a team based in Norfolk, Virginia. This Long-term Contract position is ideal for someone who is comfortable handling both payables and receivables while keeping records accurate and up to date. The role offers the opportunity to contribute to essential accounting processes, maintain organized financial data, and assist with routine reconciliations in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:
• Process vendor invoices, verify supporting details, and prepare payments in a timely and accurate manner.
• Maintain accounts receivable records by tracking incoming payments, applying transactions, and following up on outstanding balances.
• Reconcile bank activity against internal financial records and investigate discrepancies to ensure accurate reporting.
• Enter and update accounting information in QuickBooks while preserving complete and well-organized documentation.
• Review invoice coding for accuracy and assign the appropriate account classifications before submission.
• Assist with routine financial recordkeeping and support month-end activities as needed.
• Communicate with internal staff and external contacts to resolve billing or payment issues efficiently.

Qualifications:

• At least 2 years of experience in an accounting support or accounting assistant role.
• Hands-on experience managing accounts payable and accounts receivable activities.
• Ability to perform bank reconciliations with strong attention to detail.
• Working knowledge of QuickBooks for data entry, record maintenance, and transaction review.
• Experience coding invoices accurately and consistently.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills for coordinating with vendors, customers, and team members.

Compensation

$23.00-$25.00 Hourly
