Music Business & Legal Affairs Attorney

Compensation: $55 to $75 Hourly

We are looking for an experienced Music Business & Legal Affairs Attorney to support a busy legal team in Los Angeles, California new acquisitions move toward closing. This Contract position is ideal for an attorney who understands music publishing, administration, and complex music publishing agreements, and who can quickly assess legacy artist contracts and acquisition-related documents. The role will focus on organizing, interpreting, and summarizing a high volume of music and corporate legal records while helping the business affairs team understand key rights, obligations, and deal terms.


Responsibilities:

• Review, interpret, and summarize a large volume of music industry agreements tied to newly acquired artist catalogs and legacy rights portfolios.

• Analyze contract terms related to publishing, administration, composition rights, and broader business affairs matters to support internal decision-making.

• Examine historical artist and catalog agreements, including older archival documents, and identify key legal and commercial provisions.

• Coordinate the intake, organization, scanning, and upload of legacy contracts and related records into the appropriate legal documentation process.

• Prepare clear summaries of purchase agreement materials and related deal documents for the legal and business affairs team at the start of the engagement.

• Support legal review connected to merger and acquisition activity by helping translate transaction documents into actionable contract insights.

• Manage substantial contract volume efficiently while maintaining accuracy, consistency, and attention to detail.

• Work closely with stakeholders on a hybrid schedule, including four days onsite and one day remote each week.


Qualifications:

• At least 3 years of experience practicing law in music, entertainment, or related business affairs environments.

Active license to practice law in any state (CA preferred)

• Strong background in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts, ideally within the music industry.

• Knowledge of music publishing, music administration, and composition-related rights and agreements.

• Experience handling entertainment law matters, preferably with music-focused companies.

• Familiarity with purchase agreements and legal support for merger and acquisition transactions.

• Ability to read and interpret legacy contracts and archival records with a high degree of precision.

• Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage a heavy document workload under evolving business needs.


Compensation

$55.00-$75.00 Hourly
