Sr. Software Engineer

Huntsville, AL 35806, US Temporary
Compensation: $60 to $65 Hourly

Our client is seeking an experienced Software Engineer to support the development of software in Huntsville, Alabama. This role will focus on building and maintaining robust software frameworks and software products that support analysis tools, simulations, mission planning applications, and mission-critical systems.

This is an onsite contract opportunity for a software engineer with strong technical depth, experience in embedded and mission-critical environments, and the ability to collaborate across engineering teams and customer stakeholders.


Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, support, and maintain software products for missile and mission-critical system applications
  • Design and implement software architecture and design patterns for major system functions, including:
  • Guidance
  • Navigation
  • Control
  • Telemetry
  • Mission planning
  • Contribute to technical design reviews, code reviews, and software quality initiatives
  • Help drive technical decisions related to tools, frameworks, and development approaches
  • Collaborate with program leadership, customers, end users, and cross-functional engineering teams
  • Support modular, reusable, portable, and maintainable software design practices
  • Apply open systems architecture concepts and Modular Open Systems Approach (MOSA) principles
  • Participate in software testing, fielding, support, and post-deployment maintenance
  • Support flight test operations and post-test analysis as needed
  • Ensure software development aligns with applicable military and aviation standards for safety, cybersecurity, and RM

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 10+ years of relevant experience with a master’s degree, or 12+ years of relevant experience with a bachelor’s degree
  • Active Secret clearance or ability to obtain one
  • Strong experience in C/C++
  • Experience with Python and Java
  • Experience working on complex, multidisciplinary software development efforts
  • Knowledge of open systems architectures and implementation concepts
  • Understanding of MOSA principles and applications
  • Familiarity with real-time embedded systems and RTOS environments such as VxWorks or FreeRTOS
  • Strong understanding of software architecture patterns and design principles
  • Experience with software configuration management, software quality engineering, and software development standards and best practices
  • Strong communication skills and systems-level problem-solving ability

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with open architecture frameworks such as FACE, OMS, or SOSA
  • Experience with containerization and microservices technologies
  • Knowledge of guidance and control algorithms, navigation systems, sensors, and mission planning systems such as NOMS or JMPS
  • Familiarity with Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) and SysML
  • Knowledge of software development standards such as DO-178C or MIL-STD-882E
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines
  • Proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink for algorithm development and simulation
  • Understanding of hardware/software integration and software systems engineering
  • Previous experience in a software leadership role such as IPT Lead, Technical Lead, or Software PM
  • Agile Scrum Master or Product Owner experience is a plus

Compensation

$60.00-$65.00 Hourly
