Staff Accountant

A Staff Accountant role with exposure to the entire business — not just one piece of the ledger.

A growing professional services organization in Encinitas is looking for a Staff Accountant to join its accounting team. Unlike a highly transactional accounting position, this role will give you exposure to general ledger accounting, reconciliations, month-end close, billing, expenses, and financial reporting.

This is a strong opportunity for an accountant who has established a foundation in accounting and is ready to take on more responsibility.

Your responsibilities

• Prepare recurring journal entries
• Perform monthly bank and account reconciliations
• Maintain general ledger accounts
• Assist with month-end and year-end close
• Review AP and AR activity
• Assist with customer billing and account reconciliations
• Prepare monthly financial reports
• Maintain prepaid and accrual schedules
• Assist with fixed asset accounting
• Analyze account balances and investigate discrepancies
• Support expense reporting and employee reimbursements
• Assist with audit and tax requests
• Maintain organized accounting records
• Help improve accounting procedures and workflows
• Support the Controller and Senior Accounting team with special projects

Qualifications:

• 2–4 years of accounting experience
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred
• Strong understanding of debits, credits, and reconciliations
• Proficiency with Excel
• Experience with QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage, or another ERP
• Strong attention to detail
• Ability to meet month-end deadlines
• Excellent analytical and organizational skills
• Professional services, consulting, real estate, or technology experience is a plus
