The Physical Security Field Technician, within the Office of Physical Security and Life Safety Systems, supports the safety and security of the University’s campuses through the installation, termination, commissioning, maintenance, integration, and troubleshooting of physical security systems. This position works collaboratively with vendors and University stakeholders to ensure the effective operation of systems and the timely completion of assigned work in accordance with applicable safety standards and institutional requirements.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Physical Security
  • Physical Security System troubleshooting/support on IP video system hardware
  • Compete installation, termination, and commissioning of small-scale security systems
  • Assist with Technical Services Manager on large scale projects
  • Liaison between vendors and university partners on Physical Security Systems
  • Troubleshoot issues and provide technical support through phone, e-mail, and in person with university partners, vendors, and end-users.
  • Communicate with subcontractors and coordinate work with subcontractors as required to ensure efficient and timely completion of work
  • Receive and perform field service calls and preventive maintenance on installed equipment
  • Assist in a quarterly review and oversight of University Doors, Lighting, and Emergency Phones utilizing Building Reports
  • Submit facilities work orders and follow up on corrections

Minimum Qualifications:
Formal Education
  • High School Diploma
Work Experience
  • 3+ years low voltage field experience
  • 5 years experience in physical security or closely related field.
Work Skills (e.g., written and verbal communication skills)
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to cultivate strong collaborative relationships inside and outside the organization.
  • Verbally communicate in person, via telephone, telecommunications and other electronic devices using the English language.
  • Document physically in writing all relevant information in prescribed format.
  • Read and comprehend written materials.
  • Superb organizational skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Good decision-making ability.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects.

Specific Job Knowledge (e.g., knowledge of principles and procedures related to field and area)
  • Advanced Genetec and/or CCTV Systems experience
  • Advanced DMP Panel installation experience
Equipment Knowledge
  • Ability to install and commission cctv cameras, duress buttons, and alarms.
  • Ability for critical thinking and logical troubleshooting of circuits and network connectivity issues relating to the wiring and termination of network cabling.
  • Strong understanding of circuits, circuit theory and Ohm’s Law.
  • Laptop computer and related software (MS Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Zoom, Teams)
Preferred Qualifications:
Work Experience
  • Prior experience working in a college or university setting in emergency management, physical security, or related field.
  • Prior experience in physical security installation and commissioning.

Specific Job Knowledge (e.g., knowledge of principles and procedures related to field and area)
  • Genetec Certification
  • DMP Panel Certification

Physical Requirements and/or Unusual Work Hours:
Tools, machinery and equipment used: Laptop computer, desk phone, cell phone.

Environmental conditions: (any unusual/adverse conditions such as exposure to chemicals, noise, illumination, air quality, weather exposure etc.). Indoor and outdoor settings, including stairwells, mechanical rooms, IT closets, and construction sites. Function in varied environmental conditions such as lite or darkened work areas, extreme heat, cold and moisture.

Physical requirements: (items such as lifting, pushing, pulling, standing or sitting for extended periods of time, manual dexterity, walking etc.) Ability to sit, stand, and walk, both indoors and outdoors. Both gross and fine motor skills are needed, as well as visual, hearing, speaking, touching, tasting and smelling sensory abilities. Hear and interpret spoken information from co-workers, emergency responders, dispatchers and sounds common to the emergency scene. Capable of manual dexterity and fine motor skills.

Salary Posting Information:
This position falls within salaried grade 15 and the range is $65,300-83,000. The final salary will be determined with consideration of several factors including the selected candidate’s qualifications, department budget availability, market data, and internal equity.
