HVAC Mechanic

Job Summary
FSI is looking to hire an HVAC Mechanic. This position will identify and mitigate maintenance risks on HVAC equipment. Perform HVAC equipment and energy management control systems installation, preventive and corrective maintenance.
Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Utilizes computers as required to perform and document preventive and corrective maintenance.
  • Installs, services and repairs electric, electronic, pneumatic and direct digital environmental control systems in office buildings and other commercial establishments, utilizing knowledge of refrigeration theory, pipefitting and structural layout.
  • May install, repair and service air conditioners, package A/C & chillers ranging up to 400-ton cooling capacity in commercial facilities.
  • Cuts and bends tubing and pipe using proper tools. Join tubing or pipes using sleeves, couplings or unions and solders or brazes joints as required using a torch, forming complete circuit for refrigerant.
  • Connects motors, compressors, temperature controls, humidity controls and circulating ventilation fans to control panels and connects control panels to power source.
  • Perform pressure tests on systems using nitrogen gas and checks joints/filling connections using gauges and soap and water solution prior to the installation of refrigerant.
  • Observes pressure and vacuum gauges and adjusts controls to ensure proper operation.
  • Wraps pipe in insulation batting and secure them in place with cement or wire bands.
  • Replace defective breaker controls and install units using electrician's hand tools and test equipment.
  • Recover, reclaim, and recharge refrigerants per EPA 608 regulations.
  • Trains & motivates junior HVAC technicians on HVAC equipment operation & maintenance.
Education and/or Work Experience Requirements
  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Must possess a valid driver's license, insurable driving record.
  • The ability to read and write English.
  • Must be able to pass a company drug screen and background check.
  • Must possess or be able to obtain a NACI (National Agency Check with Inquiries).
  • All state or federal license requirements; or any licenses or certificates that may be required by the contract in which the employee is working.
