Cost Accountant
Responsibilities:
• Oversee product costing activities to ensure inventory values, unit costs, and gross margin data remain accurate and dependable.
• Develop, update, and monitor standard costs, including labor and overhead rates, to support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
• Review bills of materials, routings, and job-related data to strengthen cost accuracy across manufacturing processes.
• Analyze production, inventory, and purchase price variances, then communicate findings and recommendations to plant leadership.
• Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close support related to inventory and production transactions.
• Lead cycle count and physical inventory coordination, investigate discrepancies, and help resolve control issues affecting stock accuracy.
• Produce recurring financial and operational reports, presentations, and profitability analyses covering price, cost, volume, and mix performance.
• Partner with manufacturing, engineering, purchasing, and warehouse teams to address costing questions, improve inventory controls, and identify obsolete stock.
• Support testing and validation of costing-related system updates or process changes to maintain reporting integrity.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.• At least 3 years of accounting or finance experience in a manufacturing environment with exposure to job costing and standard costing.
• Strong knowledge of inventory accounting, cost analysis, variance reporting, and general ledger relationships.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and solid proficiency with Microsoft Word.
• Experience working with manufacturing ERP or relational database systems used for costing and inventory management.
• Understanding of production workflows, including work centers, routings, jobs, and the impact of overhead and fixed manufacturing costs.
• Ability to analyze large data sets, work independently, and communicate effectively across multiple departments.
Compensation
