Job Summary:
American Rheinmetall is seeking a dynamic Senior Program Manager to lead execution of high-velocity software development programs supporting mission-critical Defense and DoD customers. This role drives full lifecycle program delivery—from requirements and development to cybersecurity accreditation and deployment.
As a key member of the Defense Software Programs team, you will lead multidisciplinary efforts across software engineering, cybersecurity, systems engineering, and IT, ensuring delivery of secure, high-quality software solutions to the warfighter.
Located in Auburn Hills, MI
Essential Functions:
  • Direct support to the Programs Director.
  • Lead end-to-end program management of Defense/DoD software contracts.
  • Oversee cross-functional teams spanning software engineering, cybersecurity, IT infrastructure, and systems engineering.
  • Manage subcontractor performance related to software development and testing.
  • Engage directly with U.S. Army, Marine Corps, and other DoD customers.
  • Lead rapid development cycles including prototyping, testing, and iterative releases.
  • Maintain financial oversight, earned value performance, and contract compliance.
  • Support AR capture and proposal efforts for Defense software programs.
  • Manage program documentation using PLM and configuration management tools.
  • Continuous improvement of processes and software delivery efficiency.
  • Undertake other duties as tasked by the Program Director or their delegate.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Assist with mentoring PM and PM Specialist within the Tactical Programs team.

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience delivering complex U.S. Defense or DoD software programs.
  • Experience with EVM, DELTEK, MS Project, SAP, and software lifecycle tools.
  • Experience leading large cross-functional software teams.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
  • Background Prerequisites:
  • Must pass background checks and meet suitability requirements for classified information access.
Background Prerequisites:
Must undergo and meet company standards for background check, employment verification, reference checks, physical, and controlled substance testing. Candidate must be able to obtain and maintain suitability requirements for access to classified information.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Training in PMP, Agile, or Systems Engineering.
  • Experience leading distributed software teams.
  • Knowledge of DoD software deliverable systems.
  • Experience with cybersecurity and encryption software.
  • Knowledge of ITAR and export compliance.
  • Working Conditions & Physical Demands:
  • Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to travel up to 25%.
  • Ability to work in shared workspace environments.
