Leidos, a leading defense, intelligence, and technology company, is seeking motivated and aspiring data and software students for our Summer 2027 Internship Program (Starts May 2027). As a Data Engineering & Analytics Intern, you will join our Digital Sector on the Global Solutions Management – Operations II (GSM-O II) contract at Scott AFB, IL. This is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience with large-scale data visualization, automation, and software development in direct support of the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA).
Your Opportunity:
Are you passionate about turning massive datasets into actionable intelligence? As our team helps lead DISA's transition to next-generation platforms, you will be embedded directly with our Operational Engineering and Innovations teams. You will learn how to build dynamic dashboards, test enterprise-level software, and develop automation solutions that have a real-world impact on the security and efficiency of the global Defense Information System Network (DISN).
What You’ll Do (Potential Projects & Learning Opportunities):
- Assist in the creation of Kibana visualizations and dashboards to provide critical information to network operators and leadership.
- Gain exposure to enterprise data pipelines by assisting with the deployment, configuration, and testing of Kafka and Elastic clusters.
- Collaborate with an Agile team, participate in daily scrums, and demonstrate working software.
- Develop skills in troubleshooting and resolving infrastructure and system-level issues.
- Have the opportunity to design, develop, and test software written in Python, JavaScript, and SQL.
What You’ll Bring (Required):
- Citizenship & Clearance: Must be a U.S. citizen and eligible to obtain a DoD Secret security clearance.
- Education: Currently pursuing a degree in a relevant field such as Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or a related engineering discipline.
- Technical Foundation: A foundational understanding of software development with Python, Java, or SQL, and a working knowledge of web technologies like HTML and JavaScript.
- Version Control: Basic familiarity with distributed version control software, such as Git.
- Analytical Mindset: A strong desire to learn, keen attention to detail, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Location: This internship is based on-site at Scott AFB, Illinois. All work must be performed on site – no teleworking opportunities. Candidates must be in the St. Louis Metro area and have their own transportation.
What We Want (Desired):
- Certifications: Obtaining a CompTIA Security+ certification (or any certification that aligns with DoD 8570 IAT Level II) before the start date is strongly encouraged.
- Hands-On Experience: Experience from home labs, class projects, hackathons, or prior internships is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with:
- Web development using UI frameworks like React.
- Containerization technologies like Docker or Kubernetes.
- Cloud environments (AWS is a plus).
- Agile development tools like JIRA and Confluence.

Pay Range:
Pay Range $40,300.00 - $72,850.00The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
