Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a Systems Engineer Level 5 for the development and ongoing support of new and existing designs used in surface ship and submarine launcher systems for the US Navy based out of Sunnyvale, CA. The successful candidate will be collaborative, open, transparent, and team-oriented with a focus on team empowerment & shared responsibility, flexibility, continuous learning, and a culture of automation.
The successful candidate will support current and future system testing for launcher programs for developmental and currently deployed launcher systems and maintain the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously. Perform functional analysis, scheduling analysis, detailed trade studies, requirements allocation/verification and interface definition studies to translate customer requirements into test objectives, test requirements and test plans. Perform activities for system
integration, installation, test, operation, maintenance and disposal. Develop test system architecture, develop test plans and procedures, execute testing in accordance with these plans and procedures, and communicate test results.
The ideal candidate has the ability to multi-task and balance multiple projects simultaneously. You enjoy working collaboratively and have strong written and verbal skills. You demonstrate strategic big picture thinking and sound
decision making.
Travel is regular, consisting of visits to customer for technical reviews, meetings for test planning, and significant in-field test conduct. Travel may increase in frequency as system test activity increases during actual test events. Candidates must be able to support up to 50% travel.
This position is full time onsite at Sunnyvale, CA campus.
Basic Qualifications Systems Engineer Level 5:
- Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 12+ years of relevant work; experience, a Masters degree in a STEM discipline with 10+ years of relevant work experience or a PhD with 7+ years of experience
- Exposure to EVMS, CAM and project management activities
- Experience authoring and leading teams of engineers in the generation of test plans and procedures for mechanical systems
- Experience developing test objectives, linking those objectives to requirement verification and developing success criteria
- Experience leading test meetings/working groups
- Experience with stakeholder management including senior internal and external leadership
- Experience authoring, and leading others in the generation of test reports
- Experience authoring and leading others in the generation of BOEs and proposal support
- Experience with in-field test execution leadership of both internal, commercial partner and customer/governmental POCs
- Experience with hands-on mechanical and electrical integration
- Experience with instrumentation, data acquisition, and data processing
- Experience with resource management and test site support scheduling/coordination
- Experience supporting RCCAs, FRBs fault-tree analysis etc
- Experience leading TRRs and providing input to major milestone reviews (SRRs, PDRs, CDRs etc)
- Experience with significant independent decision making as well as multi-tasking across multiple programs/efforts simultaneously
- Experience mentoring junior engineers
- Proficient with MS Office
- Must be able to travel up to 50% as needed
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a US Government Secret clearance
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in a STEM discipline (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) with 15+ years of relevant work experience
- Experience with naval missile launcher systems and testing
- Experience with requirement verification and RVTMs
- Experience with test range airspace management and coordination
- Experience with crane lifting and handling operations
- Experience in both a commercial and military shipyard environments
- Experience supporting major EVMS milestones such as CEACs, IBRs or compliance audits
- Experience with DOORS
- Experience with agile and scrum methodologies
- Experience with confluence and JIRA
- Experience with EVMS and CAM activities
- Experience with hands-on mechanical and electrical integration both on land and at sea in remote locations requirement independent decision making
- Experience in bottoms-up test site planning including site surveys, test site integration through to demobilization
- Experience with both prototype, development, qualification and tactical fielding of systems
- Experience with field engineering, sustainment, logistics planning
- Experience with ordnance handling requirements
- Experience in relation to system safety and human factors engineering
- Experience in the development of Tier 1 and Tier 2 schedules
- Experience with IMS input or management
