Accountant/Bookkeeper

We are looking for an experienced Accountant/Bookkeeper to support multiple small-business clients in Texas. This is a Contract position for a hands-on accounting specialist who can oversee complete accounting cycles, resolve inconsistencies, and turn financial data into clear business insight. The ideal candidate is comfortable working through complex records, maintaining accuracy across several accounts, and communicating effectively with clients and internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities:
• Oversee end-to-end accounting activities for a portfolio of small-business clients, ensuring timely and accurate processing from daily transactions through monthly close.
• Maintain financial records by managing general ledger activity, tracking receivables and payables, and keeping supporting documentation organized and current.
• Complete reconciliations across bank accounts, credit cards, loans, payroll records, and balance sheet accounts to identify and resolve discrepancies.
• Record and post journal entries related to accruals, prepaid expenses, depreciation, and other period-end adjustments.
• Investigate accounting issues, correct unreconciled items, and restore accuracy in incomplete or disorganized financial records.
• Prepare monthly financial statements and management reports that help clients understand operating results and financial position.
• Support and troubleshoot QuickBooks Online and Desktop environments to keep client accounting systems functioning effectively.
• Assist with payroll processing, sales tax filings, audit support, and other finance-related reporting requirements as needed.
• Communicate directly with clients to answer questions, address issues proactively, and keep deliverables on schedule while protecting confidential information.

Qualifications:

• At least 5 years of accounting or bookkeeping experience with strong exposure to full-cycle accounting processes.
• Practical experience handling accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger activity, and month-end close responsibilities.
• Demonstrated ability to prepare journal entries, perform account reconciliations, and produce accurate financial statements.
• Advanced proficiency with QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop.
• Strong Excel skills with the ability to analyze data, organize workflows, and solve accounting problems independently.
• Proven attention to detail and the ability to investigate discrepancies without close supervision.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills for working directly with clients and explaining financial information clearly.
• Background supporting multiple clients, payroll activities, sales tax, or accounting cleanup projects is preferred.

Compensation

$23.00-$28.00 Hourly
