Payroll Tax Manager
Responsibilities:
• Lead day-to-day payroll tax oversight across federal, state, and local jurisdictions, serving as the primary resource for tax-related payroll matters.
• Coordinate with managed service partners to validate payroll tax data, confirm timely funding, and resolve discrepancies affecting filings or payments.
• Support tax activities related to mergers and acquisitions, including account setup, compliance review, and alignment of payroll tax requirements.
• Review payroll tax general ledger activity and work closely with accounting teams to complete reconciliations accurately and within required timelines.
• Prepare, analyze, and distribute standard and ad hoc payroll reports for business leaders, while identifying opportunities to improve reporting quality and efficiency.
• Oversee quarterly and year-end tax reporting deliverables, including W-2 validation, wage type review, and proper mapping of earnings and deductions.
• Monitor changes in federal and state tax regulations and help implement required updates within payroll processes and supporting systems.
• Manage tax account registrations, refund or credit requests, and investigations into overpayments, underpayments, and other tax exceptions.
• Partner with treasury and internal stakeholders on payroll funding, escheatment activities, audit support, and documentation needed to satisfy internal controls and external reviews.
Qualifications:
• Demonstrated experience managing payroll tax operations across multiple legal entities and numerous state and local jurisdictions.• Strong knowledge of payroll tax compliance, filings, reconciliations, and year-end reporting requirements, including W-2 processes.
• Ability to research tax issues, troubleshoot discrepancies, and drive resolution for complex payroll tax exceptions.
• Experience collaborating with accounting, treasury, HR, and third-party payroll or managed services providers.
• Proficiency in preparing documentation, analyzing reports, and supporting audit and internal control requirements.
• Familiarity with payroll tax account maintenance, refund or credit processing, and multi-jurisdiction reporting obligations.
• Strong organizational and communication skills with the ability to manage deadlines in a high-volume payroll environment.
