Sales Tax & Use Specialist

We are looking for a detail-oriented Sales Tax & Use Specialist Tax Preparer to work for a Contract position based in Houston, Texas. This opportunity is well suited to someone who can manage return and audit preparation accurately, stay organized during demanding filing periods, and work confidently with tax software. The role will focus on individual tax filings, sales and use tax matters, and audit-related support while maintaining compliance with applicable regulations.

Responsibilities:

• Enter and track receipts, invoices, and tax-related data in spreadsheets and reporting systems.
• Identify and follow up on missing documentation required for tax filings and compliance.
• Prepare and assist with multi-state sales and use tax returns.
• Support tax audits, reconciliations, and compliance initiatives.
• Utilize strong knowledge of sales and use tax regulations and business operations to ensure accurate reporting.
• Partner with the CPA to provide tax support and assist with special projects and research.

Qualifications:

• 3+ years of hands-on Sales & Use Tax experience required.
• Strong knowledge of sales and use tax regulations, compliance, and return preparation.
• Experience preparing and filing multi-state sales and use tax returns.
• Proven ability to review transactions and identify missing documentation or information needed for accurate tax reporting.
• Experience maintaining and tracking tax-related records, receipts, and invoices within spreadsheets and reporting systems.
• Ability to support tax audits, reconciliations, and compliance initiatives.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to research and resolve tax discrepancies.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including tracking, organizing, and analyzing tax data.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with external CPAs and internal business partners.
• Understanding of business operations and how sales and use tax impacts various transactions.
