Accounting Manager

Carlsbad, CA 92010, US Full Time
Compensation: $110 to $120 Yearly

We are looking for an experienced Accounting Manager to lead day-to-day accounting operations in Carlsbad, California while serving as the senior finance leader on site. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys balancing strategic oversight with direct execution, from managing close activities to shaping accounting practices and reporting. The role works closely with company leadership and provides meaningful influence over financial controls, compliance, systems, and business support.

Responsibilities:
• Lead the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close process and ensure accurate, timely financial reporting.
• Prepare financial statements and consolidated reporting materials for the parent organization in alignment with its reporting calendar and requirements.
• Manage accrual-based accounting activities, including revenue treatment, inventory accounting, credit loss reserves, and general ledger accuracy.
• Review and improve the chart of accounts and strengthen accounting processes to support clear, efficient financial reporting.
• Develop materials and analysis to support leadership presentations for recurring board meetings.
• Oversee internal controls activities, including testing, corrective action follow-up, audit coordination, and maintenance of accounting policies and procedures.
• Administer tax-related accounting responsibilities such as multi-state sales and use tax compliance, exemption certificate tracking, and coordination with external tax advisors.
• Supervise core transactional functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, collections, credit administration, and payroll processing.
• Act as the business owner for QuickBooks Enterprise, including system setup, user access, reporting, close management, and coordination on integrations, backups, and upgrades.
• Partner with cross-functional teams on budgeting, forecasting, cash planning, pricing analysis, margin review, inventory costing, and evaluation of future accounting or ERP systems.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• At least 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including 2 or more years in an accounting leadership position such as Accounting Manager, Assistant Controller, or Controller.
• Strong knowledge of accrual accounting principles and experience applying them in a product-focused business environment.
• Hands-on background in inventory accounting, cost of goods sold, and distribution or wholesale finance operations.
• Advanced Excel capabilities and practical experience using QuickBooks Enterprise for administration and reporting.
• Experience working with inventory or planning systems, including item setup, bill of materials, purchasing support, and reconciliation of inventory records to the general ledger.
• Proven ability to work effectively in a lean environment where the manager is expected to both oversee processes and complete detailed accounting work directly.
• Additional value will be given to experience with multi-state sales tax, internal controls frameworks, foreign-parent subsidiaries, ERP selection or implementation, Japanese language skills, or industry experience in scientific, laboratory, biotech, or life sciences distribution.
