Position Summary
We are seeking a hands-on Accounting Manager / Controller to lead the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of a growing project-based organization. This role is responsible for overseeing accounting functions, financial reporting, cash flow management, month-end close, project accounting, and Percentage of Completion (POC) revenue recognition.
The ideal candidate is a strategic and detail-oriented accounting professional who can operate both at a transactional and managerial level. This individual will partner with leadership to provide financial insight, strengthen internal controls, improve processes, and ensure the organization maintains accurate financial reporting and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management & Reporting
- Oversee all daily accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and cash management.
- Manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process.
- Prepare and review financial statements, supporting schedules, and management reports.
- Monitor cash flow and provide recommendations to support business objectives.
- Coordinate with external CPA firms and auditors to support tax filings, audits, and compliance requirements.
- Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
Project Accounting & Revenue Recognition
- Manage project accounting activities across multiple active projects.
- Monitor project budgets, costs, billings, profitability, and financial performance.
- Oversee Percentage of Completion (POC) accounting and revenue recognition in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
- Review work-in-progress (WIP) schedules and analyze project profitability and cost-to-complete estimates.
- Partner with project managers and operational leaders to ensure accurate project reporting and forecasting.
- Reconcile project costs, labor allocations, and contract billings.
Leadership & Operations
- Lead, mentor, and develop accounting team members.
- Establish performance expectations and conduct performance reviews.
- Improve accounting processes, workflows, and internal controls.
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning initiatives.
- Collaborate with leadership to provide financial analysis and operational recommendations.
- Participate in cross-functional meetings to support organizational goals and decision-making.
Compliance & Internal Controls
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and all applicable financial regulations.
- Maintain and strengthen internal control processes.
- Oversee insurance compliance, vendor documentation, contract administration, and related financial requirements.
- Stay current on accounting standards, regulatory changes, and industry best practices.
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience.
- 2+ years of leadership or supervisory experience.
- Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting and financial reporting.
- Demonstrated experience with project accounting, job costing, Work-in-Progress (WIP) schedules, and Percentage of Completion (POC) revenue recognition.
- Experience managing month-end close, account reconciliations, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting/ERP software.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- CPA designation or CPA track preferred.
- Experience within project-driven industries such as construction, engineering, architecture, professional services, manufacturing, or related environments.
- Experience implementing process improvements and accounting automation initiatives.
- Strong understanding of contract accounting and project profitability analysis.

Compensation
