Accountant
We are looking for an Accountant to join a non-profit organization in Garden City, New York on a Contract basis. This position will support core accounting operations, with a strong focus on payroll processing, cash reconciliation, and accurate financial recordkeeping. The ideal candidate brings solid Excel skills and hands-on experience managing general ledger activity in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities:
• Process biweekly payroll for approximately 100 employees with accuracy and timeliness
• Reconcile bank accounts and investigate variances to ensure complete and accurate cash reporting
• Prepare and post journal entries to maintain up-to-date and reliable financial records
• Support general ledger activities, including account analysis and routine month-end tasks
• Use Excel to organize financial data, perform calculations, and generate reports for accounting needs
• Review payroll and accounting information for discrepancies and resolve issues in a timely manner
Qualifications:
• Experience handling payroll processing in an accounting or finance role• Knowledge of general ledger functions and journal entry preparation
• Ability to complete bank reconciliations accurately and efficiently
• Strong Excel skills, including working with formulas, spreadsheets, and financial data
• Solid attention to detail and commitment to maintaining accurate records
• Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a contract accounting environment
