Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant role is responsible for overseeing core accounting activities, strengthening the close process, and delivering analysis that helps leadership make informed decisions. Responsibilities:
• Oversee general ledger activity by preparing and reviewing journal entries, reconciliations, and supporting documentation to maintain accurate financial records.
• Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end close tasks to ensure financial results are completed on schedule and in accordance with established accounting standards and internal policies.
• Prepare financial reports and management summaries, while reviewing variances against budget and explaining notable trends or exceptions.
• Partner with auditors and regulatory stakeholders by gathering requested schedules, organizing documentation, and assisting with tax-related reporting such as Form 990 support.
• Review revenue and funding activity across sources such as memberships, events, sponsorships, grants, and other income categories to promote accurate recognition and reporting.
• Monitor key balance sheet areas including accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, cash, and investment accounts through timely reconciliation and analysis.
• Contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning by providing financial data, insights, and ad hoc reporting for leadership and department managers.
• Support day-to-day operational accounting needs, including collaboration on payables, receivables, allocations, and interdepartmental entries as needed.
• Recommend and help implement improvements to accounting workflows, reporting methods, policies, and system-enabled efficiencies to strengthen overall operations.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience.
• Strong working knowledge of general ledger accounting, financial reporting, and month-end close practices.
• Demonstrated experience preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, and bank reconciliations.
• Experience supporting audits and responding to requests for financial documentation.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including PivotTables, complex formulas, and financial analysis tools.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, analyze financial data accurately, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
Compensation
