Paralgal
A plaintiff-side personal injury law firm is seeking an experienced Paralegal to join its San Rafael team on a contract-to-hire basis. This position will primarily support the firm’s pre-litigation practice, independently managing a high-volume caseload from intake through demand and settlement.
The ideal candidate has hands-on plaintiff-side personal injury experience and is comfortable owning the day-to-day progression of cases, including client communication, treatment tracking, medical records and bills, insurance and adjuster correspondence, demand preparation, and settlement-related support. This role requires strong case ownership, organization, and follow-through to ensure active matters continue progressing toward resolution.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently manage a high-volume caseload of plaintiff-side personal injury matters from intake through demand and settlement
- Maintain regular communication with clients regarding treatment status, case developments, documentation needs, and next steps
- Track medical treatment and follow up with clients and providers regarding treatment status and outstanding information
- Request, obtain, review, and organize medical records and bills
- Communicate with insurance carriers and adjusters regarding claims, case status, documentation, and other case-related matters
- Gather and maintain insurance information, accident reports, medical documentation, wage-loss information, and other records necessary to develop claims
- Identify, track, and follow up on outstanding records, bills, liens, and other items needed to move cases toward demand
- Prepare and organize demand packages, including supporting medical records, bills, damages documentation, and other case materials for attorney review
- Assist attorneys with settlement-related documentation, lien information, and other matters necessary to move cases toward resolution
- Maintain detailed case notes, status updates, deadlines, and documentation within the firm’s case management system
- Provide litigation support, including calendaring, filings, discovery coordination, and document preparation, when matters transition into litigation
- Collaborate closely with attorneys and other members of the legal team to maintain case progress across a high-volume personal injury practice
Qualifications:
- 1+ year of direct plaintiff-side personal injury experience in a paralegal, legal assistant, case manager, or similar capacity
- Hands-on experience managing personal injury matters through the pre-litigation lifecycle from intake through demand and settlement
- Experience with client communication, treatment tracking, medical records and bills, insurance carrier/adjuster communication, demand preparation, and settlement support
- Ability to independently manage an active caseload and proactively follow up on outstanding case needs
- Experience with legal case management software; Neos/Needles, CasePeer, Filevine, or comparable systems preferred
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage a high volume of active matters and competing priorities
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to maintain consistent client contact
- Detail-oriented with strong follow-through and a positive, proactive approach to case management
- Spanish-speaking skills are a significant plus
- Ability to work a hybrid schedule, ideally reporting onsite in San Rafael 2–3 days per week
Compensation
