Accounts Payable Manager
Job costs, subcontractors, vendors, retainage—you know AP is more complicated when every invoice is tied to a project.
A growing construction company in Solana Beach is looking for an Accounts Payable Manager to lead its project-based AP operations. You'll work closely with Project Managers, Purchasing, Accounting, subcontractors, and vendors to ensure invoices are properly coded, approved, and paid. This role is ideal for someone who understands that construction AP requires strong attention to job costing, purchase orders, contracts, lien documentation, and payment deadlines.
What you'll be responsible for
- Oversee full-cycle AP for multiple construction projects
- Lead and develop the AP team
- Review subcontractor and vendor invoices
- Ensure invoices are coded to the appropriate projects and cost categories
- Oversee three-way matching between POs, receipts, and invoices
- Monitor subcontractor documentation and approvals
- Review vendor statements and resolve discrepancies
- Manage payment schedules and cash requirements
- Monitor retainage and project-related payables
- Partner with Project Managers to resolve invoice issues
- Review AP aging and identify outstanding liabilities
- Lead month-end AP close and accrual processes
- Assist with job-cost reporting
- Maintain vendor records and payment controls
- Establish and improve AP procedures
- Prepare AP metrics and management reports
- Support audits and year-end accounting activities
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of AP or construction accounting experience
- 2+ years leading or supervising an AP team
- Strong understanding of construction payables and job costing
- Experience with subcontractor billing preferred
- Strong Excel skills
- Experience with construction accounting software such as Sage, Viewpoint, Procore, or similar
- Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Strong communication with both accounting and field teams
Compensation
