The University of Pittsburgh, Ophthalmology Department, X Chen lab seeks an outstanding postdoctoral fellow who is a highly productive, independent and driven team-player. Our lab studies how vision arises through a combination of input via the eyes, with imagination and expectation within the brain. We use electrophysiological recording and microstimulation in non-human primates to understand visual processing in everyday life- including during waking, dreaming, and hallucinating- and during electrical stimulation of the visual pathway to induce perception following blindness. Crucially, we use chronically implanted neuroprostheses comprised of >1000 electrodes to observe and modulate population-wide neuronal activity with high spatial and temporal resolution in vivo.

Key responsibilities: Working with non-human primates and performing scientific research.

The incumbent will be responsible for tasks related to the execution and analysis of lab research. Tasks could include, but are not limited to, conducting literature reviews, designing and planning tasks and experiments, performing laboratory procedures, data collection, data analysis and interpretation, writing reports and articles, giving presentations, and writing and submitting grant proposals.

The ideal candidate would have PhD degree in a related field (e.g. neuroscience, bioengineering), with strong communication, project management and interpersonal skills. Experience working with NHPs and electrophysiological techniques is preferred. A high level of proficiency in Matlab programming and experience in analyzing behavioural and neuronal data, leading to first-author, peer-reviewed publications, are required.

TB testing will be required once hired
