Staff Accountant
Job Description
Our Pittsburgh-area client in the arts and entertainment industry is seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join its finance team. This role will be responsible for supporting daily accounting operations, maintaining financial records, assisting with reporting and close processes, and helping ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
The ideal candidate will bring strong general ledger experience, solid technical accounting skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a mission-driven environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain general ledgers, general journals, payroll records, accounts payable, cash receipts, and various contract and document files related to permanent records
- Prepare monthly accounting reports and schedules, including:
- accrued expenses
- prepaid insurance
- depreciation
- capital worksheets
- monthly journal entries
- unearned rent
- steam heat
- interest receivable
- capital pledge tracking
- bank reconciliations
- Prepare reporting for shows by spare code
- Review and audit accounts for accuracy and proper coding/entries
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes
- Assist with preparation of daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for the Finance Committee, Board, and department leaders
- Coordinate annual financial statement audits and support compliance with generally accepted accounting principles in partnership with independent public accountants
- Prepare and file required tax returns in a timely manner, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations
- Monitor revenues and expenditures to support effective cash management
- Maintain and update the chart of accounts, subfunds, project codes, and related accounting system structures
- Track grants for compliance and recordkeeping purposes
- Oversee the annual workers’ compensation audit
- Support annual close activities in the Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT accounting system
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related field
- 3+ years of relevant accounting experience
- Experience with computerized accounting systems; Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT experience strongly preferred
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, with strong Excel skills
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Ability to prioritize workload, meet deadlines, and work independently
- Proven ability to handle confidential information with discretion
- Strong organizational skills and sound judgment
- Must be bondable
- Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license with insurable driving record
- Personal vehicle available for travel between locations, if needed
Compensation
