Responsibilities
Position Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Machining Engineer to provide technical and operational support for our machining departments. This position plays a critical role in ensuring CNC machining operations run efficiently by supporting tooling, machine setup, process documentation, troubleshooting, inventory management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
The ideal candidate is a team-oriented individual who is organized, mechanically inclined, and enjoys working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while collaborating with machine operators, suppliers, vendors, maintenance, and production leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Production Support
- Provide daily machining and mechanical support to CNC machining operations to ensure production goals are met.
- Assist machinists with setup verification, tooling changes, and process improvements.
- Coordinate machine readiness to minimize downtime and maximize productivity.
- Support new product introductions and production launches.
Tooling & Equipment
- Manage cutting tool inventory and ensure that tooling is available for scheduled production.
- Assemble, preset, inspect, and maintain tooling as required.
- Coordinate tooling repairs, replacements, and procurement.
- Strong mechanical troubleshooting skills.
Process Support
- Maintain work instructions, setup sheets, tooling documentation, and process records.
- Assist in developing and improving machining processes.
- Monitor machining performance and identify opportunities for cycle time reduction and quality improvements.
- Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action activities.
Quality & Safety
- Support quality initiatives by verifying processes and assisting with inspection activities.
- Ensure compliance with all safety policies and manufacturing standards.
- Promote good housekeeping throughout the machining department.
Continuous Improvement
- Participate in continuous improvement projects.
- Identify waste and recommend improvements to increase efficiency and reduce costs.
- Support implementation of standardized work and best practices.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or technical certification in machining, manufacturing technology, or a related field preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in a CNC machining or manufacturing environment.
- Detailed understanding of CNC machining processes, cutting tools, and machine setups.
- Ability to read engineering drawings and blueprints.
- Familiarity with precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and manufacturing software systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with CNC mills, lathes, or multi-axis machining centers.
- Knowledge of GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems.
- Forklift and overhead crane experience.
