BRG’s Global Construction practice offers professional experience and technical expertise in engineering, architecture, construction management, claims and dispute analysis, schedule and cost analysis, and litigation support. Our professionals assist clients with complex construction and engineering matters, including forensic investigations, design and construction defects, failure analysis, standard-of-care evaluations, early dispute resolution, and litigation and arbitration.
We are seeking highly motivated Consultants, Managing Consultants, and Senior Managing Consultants with a structural and forensic engineering background to join BRG’s North American Construction Engineering Consulting Practice in our Los Angeles, CA office. The position will focus primarily on structural engineering, forensic investigations, and analysis of design and construction issues. The successful candidate will work closely with experienced engineers and testifying experts to investigate complex technical issues, evaluate causation, and develop clear, defensible conclusions.
While structural engineering will be the primary focus, the role offers opportunities to work on a diverse range of engineering and construction matters involving other technical disciplines, as well as delay, cost, and damages issues in litigation and arbitration. The position offers significant opportunities for continued career growth, increased project responsibility, and interaction with clients and counsel.
Job Responsibilities:
- Support experts and senior staff on complex forensic engineering and construction dispute engagements.
- Perform structural evaluations, forensic investigations, and failure and distress analyses involving buildings, infrastructure, and other constructed facilities.
- Investigate design and construction defects, structural performance issues, and potential causes of damage or failure through engineering analysis, project records, and field observations.
- Review drawings, specifications, calculations, construction records, inspection reports, and other technical documentation, and perform structural analyses and calculations as needed.
- Participate in site investigations and inspections and assist in developing appropriate investigative and testing programs.
- Assist with causation and standard-of-care analyses and preparation of expert reports, technical exhibits, and presentations for mediation, arbitration, and litigation.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and interact with engineers, architects, contractors, owners, attorneys, insurers, and other project stakeholders.
- Support broader engineering and construction dispute engagements as appropriate, including matters involving other engineering disciplines, delay, cost, and damages analyses.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering with an emphasis in structural engineering; Master’s degree preferred.
- 4+ years of structural engineering experience, with forensic engineering, failure investigation, construction defect, or related consulting experience preferred.
- California Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred, or demonstrated progress toward obtaining licensure.
- Strong structural engineering fundamentals, analytical skills, engineering judgment, and ability to critically evaluate technical and construction documents.
- Experience with structural analysis and design software such as SAP2000, ETABS, RAM, RISA-3D, or similar tools.
- Field investigation, structural inspection, or construction observation experience is a plus.
- Strong technical writing, presentation, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate complex engineering concepts clearly.
- Ability to work independently, take ownership of assignments, collaborate effectively, and deliver high-quality work in a deadline-driven environment.
Salary Range 107 to 200k
Job title and compensation to be determined based onqualifications and experience.
