Job Summary
The Senior Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the production floor, with management of the manufacturing team as the primary duty of the role. This includes exercising independent judgment and discretion over staffing, scheduling, and workflow decisions for a team of six, developing team members, troubleshooting equipment issues, and maintaining high standards of quality and safety. As a senior-level, exempt supervisor, this role carries decision-making authority over day-to-day team management and may act as a backup for the Operations Manager when needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage, schedule, and direct the daily work of a 6-person manufacturing team as the primary responsibility of the role.
- Interview candidates and make hiring recommendations for open positions on the team; recommendations are given significant weight in final hiring decisions.
- Evaluate team member performance, deliver formal performance reviews, and recommend or issue disciplinary action, promotions, or terminations as needed.
- Prepare the production floor for daily operations, ensuring all equipment and materials are ready.
- Monitor production processes and exercise independent judgment to adjust schedules and staffing to meet production targets.
- Troubleshoot and resolve equipment issues to minimize downtime, escalating complex issues as appropriate.
- Train and mentor team members on manufacturing processes and safety protocols.
- Conduct regular quality checks to ensure products meet established standards.
- Maintain accurate records of production activities, including inventory, work orders, and team attendance/time records.
- Communicate with other departments to ensure smooth workflow and address any issues.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and industry standards.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives to enhance production efficiency and quality.
- Serve as a point of escalation for team member issues and act as backup to the Operations Manager as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree in a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least 3 years in a supervisory role leading a team.
- Demonstrated experience managing a team of similar size (5+ direct reports), including hiring, performance management, and discipline, preferred.
- Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and equipment.
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and manufacturing software.
- Strong communication, coaching, and leadership skills, with proven ability to develop team members.
- Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion in managing day-to-day operations.
- Attention to detail and ability to multitask effectively.
