Join the NATO IT Modernization (NITM) Programme and contribute to a high-impact international mission delivering secure, next-generation private cloud capabilities within NATO-secured environments. The Site Deployment Lead provides technical and operational leadership for the planning, readiness, coordination, execution, and acceptance of integrated infrastructure deployments at NATO locations.
The position leads and coordinates the on-site physical and automated implementation of Platform, Network, Firewall, Backup & Recovery, IaaS, DevOps, and supporting enterprise capabilities. The Site Deployment Lead ensures solutions developed and integrated by the engineering organization are successfully installed, configured, integrated, validated, commissioned, and accepted at customer sites.
The position is expected to be onsite 5 days a week at the Customer Site in The Hague, Netherlands, with frequent travel to NATO sites supporting implementation and deployment activities.
Primary Responsibilities
Lead planning, readiness, coordination, and execution of integrated infrastructure deployments at NATO customer sites.
Develop and maintain site deployment plans, implementation schedules, readiness criteria, installation sequences, resource plans, deployment checklists, and completion criteria.
Coordinate Platform, Network, Firewall, Backup & Recovery, IaaS, DevOps, cybersecurity, test, and other engineering disciplines throughout site implementation.
Serve as the primary technical coordination point between on-site engineering teams, programme leadership, remote engineering teams, NATO customer stakeholders, and technical partners.
Lead site readiness activities with NATO customer representatives and technical partners to verify facilities, rack space, power, cabling, network connectivity, IP addressing, equipment, software, credentials, certificates, security/access requirements, engineering documentation, and other technical prerequisites are complete prior to deployment.
Conduct deployment readiness reviews with customer and engineering stakeholders and provide go/no-go recommendations based on completion of site prerequisites, engineering dependencies, resources, equipment, documentation, and implementation criteria.
Provide technical leadership for the physical and automated implementation of site infrastructure, coordinating rack-and-stack, cabling, network connectivity, platform configuration, security integration, backup/recovery integration, automation execution, and technical validation activities.
Validate implementation sequencing and dependencies between physical infrastructure, network connectivity, platform services, security controls, backup/recovery capabilities, automation workflows, and enterprise services.
Coordinate installation, configuration, integration, testing, troubleshooting, commissioning, and customer acceptance activities.
Ensure deployed infrastructure conforms to approved architectures, engineering designs, configuration standards, automation strategies, and NATO security requirements.
Coordinate execution of deployment runbooks, build guides, implementation procedures, automation workflows, rollback procedures, and site acceptance activities.
Lead daily deployment coordination meetings, technical status reviews, issue resolution, and prioritization of site activities.
Identify and manage deployment risks, technical blockers, cross-functional dependencies, resource constraints, and schedule impacts, escalating issues to engineering and programme leadership as required.
Coordinate with the Test organization to ensure deployed capabilities are ready for integration testing, technical validation, and customer acceptance.
Track deployment activities, issues, dependencies, risks, blockers, and completion criteria within Jira and programme delivery tools.
Coordinate defect and issue resolution with on-site and remote engineering teams during deployment.
Maintain accurate deployment status, configuration records, implementation evidence, acceptance documentation, and lessons learned.
Support transition of successfully deployed capabilities into customer acceptance and operational readiness activities.
Capture lessons learned and feed deployment experience back into engineering standards, automation, documentation, deployment methodologies, and future site implementation planning.
Basic Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related discipline with 8–12 years of relevant experience, or Master's degree with 6–10 years of relevant experience.
Active NATO Secret clearance (or higher).
Demonstrated experience leading deployment, installation, integration, commissioning, or field implementation of enterprise infrastructure solutions.
Demonstrated hands-on experience installing, configuring, integrating, and troubleshooting enterprise data-center infrastructure, with practical experience across multiple technology domains such as compute/virtualization, networking, firewalls/security, storage, and backup/recovery.
Experience coordinating multidisciplinary infrastructure teams across platform, networking, cybersecurity, storage, backup/recovery, cloud, and DevOps technologies.
Experience deploying enterprise infrastructure within secure, mission-critical, defense, government, or highly regulated environments.
Strong understanding of enterprise infrastructure implementation, physical deployment, system integration, technical validation, troubleshooting, commissioning, and customer acceptance processes.
Experience developing and executing implementation plans, deployment procedures, technical runbooks, readiness checklists, installation sequences, and rollback plans.
Experience conducting site readiness assessments and coordinating customer prerequisites necessary for infrastructure deployment.
Experience coordinating technical dependencies and resolving cross-functional deployment blockers across multiple engineering disciplines.
Experience with VMware-based private cloud, virtualization, networking, storage, security, backup/recovery, or associated enterprise data-center technologies.
Working knowledge of infrastructure automation and Infrastructure as Code (IaC), including technologies such as Ansible, Terraform, PowerShell, Python, APIs, or equivalent tools, with an understanding of how automation is used to configure and validate infrastructure during site deployment.
Experience working within Agile, SAFe, or DevSecOps delivery environments and using Jira for planning, issue management, dependency tracking, blocker resolution, and deployment execution.
Strong leadership, communication, customer engagement, problem-solving, decision-making, and technical coordination skills.
Ability to effectively coordinate engineering teams and customer stakeholders in high-pressure deployment environments.
Ability and willingness to travel internationally to NATO locations as required to support site readiness, infrastructure implementation, integration, testing, commissioning, and customer acceptance activities.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting NATO environments and compliance frameworks.
Experience deploying VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) or equivalent private cloud/SDDC infrastructure.
Experience with Cisco networking, VMware NSX, Palo Alto Networks, enterprise storage, backup/recovery, and associated data-center technologies.
Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code and automation technologies including Ansible, Terraform, PowerShell, Python, APIs, or equivalent tools.
Experience integrating automated deployment workflows with physical infrastructure implementation and site commissioning activities.
PMP, PRINCE2, ITIL, SAFe, or equivalent delivery/project certification.
VMware, Cisco, Palo Alto, cloud, or other relevant enterprise infrastructure certifications.
Experience coordinating formal customer site acceptance, infrastructure commissioning, and technical readiness reviews.
Experience supporting geographically distributed, multi-site infrastructure modernization programmes.
Experience developing repeatable deployment methodologies and improving site deployment through lessons learned, standardization, and automation.
