Payroll Specialist

We are looking for an experienced Payroll Specialist to support a respected higher education institution in New York, New York. This contract opportunity with permanent potential is ideal for someone who can oversee end-to-end payroll operations for a large, multi-state employee population with accuracy and professionalism. The person in this role will serve as a reliable resource for payroll-related questions while helping ensure timely processing and compliance across multiple campuses.

Responsibilities:
• Manage complete bi-weekly payroll processing for nearly 1,000 employees across multiple locations and states, ensuring accuracy from input through final distribution.
• Maintain payroll records and review earnings, deductions, taxes, and adjustments to support compliant and timely payroll administration.
• Use ADP Workforce Now to process payroll transactions, validate employee data, and resolve discrepancies before payroll deadlines.
• Coordinate payroll-related onboarding activities by entering new employee information and confirming required documentation is properly reflected in the system.
• Respond to employee questions regarding pay, deductions, and payroll procedures with a high level of professionalism and customer service.
• Monitor multi-state payroll requirements to help maintain compliance with applicable wage, tax, and reporting regulations.
• Partner with internal teams to investigate payroll issues, reconcile inconsistencies, and implement corrective actions when needed.
• Support payroll process improvements and assist with operational updates or system-related changes as assigned.

Qualifications:

• Demonstrated experience administering full-cycle payroll for a large employee population.
• Strong working knowledge of multi-state payroll practices, including compliance considerations across jurisdictions.
• Hands-on experience with ADP Workforce Now in a payroll processing environment.
• Proven ability to run bi-weekly payroll accurately and within established deadlines.
• Familiarity with onboarding support as it relates to employee payroll setup and data accuracy.
• Background supporting non-union employee groups in a payroll capacity.
• Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly and handle sensitive matters professionally.

Compensation

$28.50-$33.00 Hourly
