Director of Accounting

We are looking for an experienced Director of Accounting to provide senior leadership across critical close and reporting activities for a client based in Nashville, Tennessee. This role will help guide accounting operations during a transitional period, ensuring strong coordination across finance, controllership, and audit stakeholders. The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in complex close environments, sound judgment in resolving accounting issues, and the presence to communicate effectively with executive leadership.

Responsibilities:

• Lead oversight of monthly and annual close activities, ensuring key reporting deadlines and year-end milestones are achieved accurately and on schedule.

• Coordinate with finance and accounting leaders to monitor deliverables, surface risks early, and keep high-priority workstreams moving forward.

• Participate in recurring status meetings, document unresolved items, clarify ownership, and provide consolidated progress updates to leadership.

• Establish visibility into close execution by maintaining a central view of deadlines, open issues, dependencies, and escalation points.

• Review balance sheet analyses, supporting schedules, disclosure materials, and other close-related reporting to identify gaps and improve quality.

• Guide the resolution of intercompany differences, consolidation matters, eliminations, and other issues affecting financial close results.

• Support internal control activities and assist with remediation efforts tied to accounting and reporting processes when needed.

• Partner with internal and external auditors by managing audit support, responding to requests, and helping prepare for intensive year-end audit activity.

• Build productive relationships across corporate accounting, business finance, and senior leadership to promote clear communication and accountability without direct supervisory authority.

Qualifications:

• Extensive controllership or senior accounting leadership experience within large, complex, multi-entity public companies.
• Demonstrated success overseeing month-end and year-end close processes, including management reporting, commentary, and disclosure support.
• Strong background in financial statement audits, including direct interaction with external auditors during annual audit cycles.
• Deep knowledge of consolidations, intercompany accounting, and elimination entries in sophisticated reporting environments.
• Ability to influence cross-functional teams and drive execution across shared services or matrixed organizations without direct reporting lines.
• Executive-level communication skills with experience presenting findings, updates, and recommendations to senior finance and business leaders.
• Familiarity with tools and processes related to financial reporting environments, including systems such as BlackLine or SAP HANA.
• CPA credential or equivalent high-level technical accounting foundation is strongly preferred.

Compensation

$70.00-$80.00 Hourly
