Payroll Specialist
We are looking for a Payroll Specialist to support a manufacturing organization in Bloomington, Minnesota on a short-term, Contract basis. This role focuses on establishing payroll tax accounts and coordinating registrations across multiple states and local jurisdictions. The ideal candidate brings hands-on experience with multi-state payroll compliance and can navigate varying agency requirements with accuracy and efficiency.
Responsibilities:
• Set up payroll tax accounts with state and local agencies to enable compliant payroll processing across multiple jurisdictions.
• Prepare and submit registration materials and supporting documentation needed to activate employer payroll tax accounts.
• Manage tax agency setup activities for approximately 8 to 10 states, ensuring each application is completed accurately and on time.
• Track jurisdiction-specific requirements, deadlines, and follow-up actions to keep registrations moving through completion.
• Partner with internal contacts to gather required business information and provide account details needed for system updates.
• Review local payroll tax obligations and help confirm proper withholding and reporting configurations are established.
• Support payroll tax reporting readiness by helping ensure agency registrations are in place before processing begins.
• Maintain organized records of filings, confirmations, agency correspondence, and registration statuses for audit and operational reference.
Qualifications:
• Prior experience establishing payroll tax accounts with state and local tax agencies is required.• Demonstrated background in multi-state payroll administration, including work across 8 or more states.
• Strong knowledge of payroll taxes, payroll tax reporting, and payroll tax return requirements.
• Experience supporting payroll operations for employee populations of 500 or more is preferred.
• Familiarity with local payroll tax compliance and jurisdiction-specific registration processes.
• Working knowledge of UKG Ready is helpful.
• High attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple applications and deadlines simultaneously.
Compensation
