Staff Accountant

Staff Accountant — Hybrid

Location: San Mateo County, CA

Work Arrangement: Hybrid (typically 2–3 days onsite)

Employment Type: Full-time

We are seeking a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to support the day-to-day accounting operations of our organization. This role will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, preparing account reconciliations, assisting with month-end close, and supporting financial reporting and analysis.

The ideal candidate has strong accounting fundamentals, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform monthly bank, credit card, and general ledger reconciliations.
• Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities.
• Prepare journal entries and maintain supporting documentation.
• Review accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
• Assist with accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and other balance-sheet accounts.
• Support preparation of financial statements and management reports.
• Investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies.
• Maintain organized and accurate accounting records.
• Assist with audits, tax filings, and other external reporting requirements.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis as needed.
• Ensure accounting activities comply with company policies and applicable accounting standards.
• Collaborate with internal departments to resolve financial and operational issues.

Qualifications:

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
• 2–5 years of accounting experience.
• Strong understanding of GAAP and general accounting principles.
• Experience with month-end close and account reconciliations.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, and financial reporting.
• Experience with an ERP or accounting system such as NetSuite, QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, or similar.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a multi-entity or high-growth environment.
• Experience with payroll, sales tax, or fixed assets.
• CPA or CPA-track experience is a plus.
• Experience improving accounting processes and internal controls.
