Acco Material Handling Solutions (“Acco”) specializes in the manufacturing of material handling equipment, including hoists, cranes, carts and lifters. Its products are used primarily in industrial manufacturing and distribution environments, including aerospace, water treatment, heavy manufacturing, agriculture, mining, automotive, and logistics. Operating from three manufacturing facilities in the US, Acco provides ready to ship stock products or fully engineered custom devices. Products are sold through distributors, as well as to large direct customers. The Attalla operations specializes in the manufacturing of cranes and patented track products.

Job Summary

The Attalla Production Supervisor primary function is to direct and lead the direct labor team in the Attalla, AL manufacturing plant, which consists of welders, machine operators, assembly and electrical workers, shipping and receiving personnel, and storeroom material handlers. This role is responsible for running and steadily and continuously improving the Attalla manufacturing performance with respect to safety, quality, on-time delivery, and cost reduction efforts through management of all direct labor staff. This will be done with support from all operations team members including purchasing, planning/scheduling, order fulfillment, quality, and engineering.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Direct, supervise, and manage the performance of the Attalla direct labor teams
  2. Drive improvements in safety, quality, and on-time delivery through the creation of new processes and improvement of existing processes
  1. Help manufacturing staff achieve company goals by communicating expectations, planning, monitoring, and evaluating job results
  2. Collaborate with planning / scheduling to execute the production schedule, providing supervision and direction to all operators and technicians. Allocate resources to ensure minimum downtime and completion of scheduled activities
  3. Enforce company policies and guidelines
  4. Interface with union leadership to maintain proactive communication and healthy relationships
  5. Recruit, hire, arrange for training, and evaluate job roles and capacity
  6. Participating and leading lean efforts to drive impactful improvements to safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
  7. Enforce and maintain a clean and safe environment for all workers
  8. Monitor and prioritize workflow of production to meet deadlines in collaboration with planners

Job Specifications (Work Experience, Skills, Abilities, etc.)

  1. Strong leadership capability, both in leading by example as well as followership
  2. Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvements in operations processes and lead the team through the changes
  3. Familiarity with lean manufacturing methodology with a track record of success in both implementation and sustainment
  4. Track record of successful process driven problem solving
  5. Excellent communication skills
  6. Experience in an office environment, with frequent use of and proficiency with computers
  7. Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize, generate plans of action, and multi-task
  8. Able to evaluate, interview/hire, coach, and train personnel
  9. Prior experience managing a Collective Bargaining Unit and/or working in a union environment is a significant plus

Education Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field or equivalent experience

Physical Demands/Environmental Conditions:

This job requires minimal travel and a daily on-site presence in Attalla. AL. Normal manufacturing plant office conditions and occasional travel may be required to meet with suppliers. Job demands may require long periods of sitting, telephone work, and/or computer work, as well as interaction with other people. Normal office conditions include walking, standing, bending, kneeling, climbing stairs, lifting, driving, and/or traveling.
