Position Title: IT Program Manager - Trading Systems

Location: Des Moines, IA, United States

Description:
Manage a portfolio of projects and initiatives supporting energy trading, risk management, settlements, scheduling, market operations, and related business functions that have a major impact on corporate, business unit, and organizational objectives. Support technology strategy, roadmap execution, modernization initiatives, and governance activities for critical trading systems supporting multiple Berkshire Hathaway Energy affiliates. Partner with business stakeholders and IT leadership to develop technology roadmaps, strategic plans, and investment recommendations supporting trading and market operations objectives while monitoring evolving market structures, regulatory requirements, and industry trends. Manage financial resources and provide leadership across project teams, vendors, and business stakeholders to ensure successful delivery of trading systems initiatives.

Responsibilities:
Coordinate technology needs, decisions, and project activities for trading systems initiatives with technology groups, business stakeholders, and vendors. Ensure successful execution of project deliverables through management of project risks, issues, actions, and decisions.

Provide leadership and guidance to project resources while supporting technology direction and alignment with BHE standards and stakeholder requirements.

Identify and recommend opportunities to improve business processes, technology utilization, system capabilities, and operational efficiency across the trading systems portfolio.

Monitor and report project status, key milestones, and portfolio activities using enterprise project and portfolio management tools.

Promote knowledge management through documentation, application inventories, ownership models, and knowledge transfer activities to reduce key-person dependency risks. Professionally coordinate and communicate with all program stakeholders including IT, business partners, and vendors. Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or a related field; or equivalent work experience. (Typically, four years of additional related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.)
  • Eight or more years of experience managing multiple IT functions.
  • Experience supporting or working with energy trading, risk management, settlements, scheduling, market operations, or related business functions.
  • Experience managing cross-functional technology initiatives involving business stakeholders, vendors, and multiple technology teams.
  • Ability to identify, assess, and respond effectively to project risks, issues, and changing business priorities.
  • Leadership skills including the ability to establish objectives, prioritize resources, coordinate stakeholders, and support implementation of technology programs and initiatives.
  • Experience with waterfall, agile, and hybrid project delivery methodologies.
  • Ability to understand technical and functional requirements and translate them into actionable project plans, priorities, and outcomes.
  • Strong understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) and its application to the successful and compliant delivery of technology solutions.
  • Understanding of enterprise application lifecycle management, modernization planning, technology governance, and portfolio management practices.
  • Knowledge of energy markets, regulatory requirements, market structures, and related technology impacts is preferred.
  • General understanding of IT operating and capital investment budgets.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Strong technical writing and presentation skills.
  • Knowledge of Critical Security Controls and ISO 27001 frameworks is preferred.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and initiatives simultaneously.
  • Ability to manage occasional after-hours support
