Overview
The Porter is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness, appearance, and overall upkeep of assigned facilities and surrounding grounds. This position provides essential support to building operations by performing routine cleaning, waste removal, material transport, and facility support tasks to ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment for occupants and visitors.
Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of building entrances, lobbies, hallways, stairwells, elevators, and common areas.
- Collect, remove, and dispose of trash and recycling throughout the facility.
- Clean and restock restrooms, break rooms, and common areas.
- Perform routine cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and spot cleaning.
- Monitor facility conditions and report maintenance, safety, or security concerns to management.
- Assist with furniture movement, event setup, and special projects as needed.
- Remove debris and litter from building grounds, parking areas, and exterior walkways.
- Clean glass surfaces, doors, and windows within reach.
- Respond promptly to spills, emergencies, and customer service requests.
- Maintain supply inventories and notify supervisors when replenishment is needed.
- Operate cleaning equipment and tools safely and effectively.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous porter, janitorial, custodial, facilities, or general labor experience preferred.
- Customer-facing experience is a plus.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong customer service and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and respond to changing needs.
- Attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness standards.
- Basic understanding of workplace safety practices.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods throughout the shift.
- Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, and climbing stairs.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to operate cleaning equipment and perform repetitive tasks.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed in commercial buildings, office complexes, educational facilities, healthcare environments, residential communities, transportation hubs, or other public facilities.
