How You’ll Help Transform Healthcare:

The Materials Management Specialist I coordinates, administers, implements and assists in the development of the supply support system which operates efficiently and meets the needs of the patient and the site/organization Materials Management Department. Cleans, prepares, and transports medical equipment.

The Materials Management Specialist I

  • Performs replenishment of supplies stocked to ensure sufficient availability.

  • Accomplishes the timely, accurate, and efficient picking and staging of the requisitions. Performs the requisitioning, inspecting, receiving, and stocking of inventory items for maintaining the appropriate par levels. Assembles, repackages, or replenishes kits, components and carts.

  • Performs regularly scheduled pick-ups and delivery of medical equipment to ensure availability where required.

  • Operates computers, computerized equipment and peripherals. In addition, operates materials handling equipment in the performance of job duties. Duties include assembling, disassembling and labeling of shelving and storage units.

  • Monitors supplies for proper labeling, expiration dates and integrity of packaging.

  • Requisitions, receives and stocks supplies for assigned area.

  • Meets assigned department and Materials Management budgetary goals and department performance indicators or statistics.

  • Recommends various cost controls over stock inventories. This includes effective and efficient utilization of system MMIS, product utilization evaluations, responsibility for product changes as directed, recommendation of effective min/max levels and critical order points, resolution of zero picks and daily monitoring of critical supply levels to prevent the onset of critical shortages.

  • Coordinates requisitions, receipts and returns for assigned areas using established policies.

  • Proficient communication skills to communicate with vendors, physicians, nurses, patients, peers and other healthcare facilities.

  • Proficient knowledge and utilization of hardware and software.

  • Participates in product evaulations / changes for assigned areas.

  • Other duties as assigned

What We Require:

Education: High School Diploma or GED Required. Three (3) years of relevant experience in warehouse or materials management operations may be considered in lieu of education requirements.


Experience: None.


Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration: Valid Virginia driver's license with positive driving record may be required at community hospitals.


Other Minimum Qualifications: Excellent communication skills. Proficiency in Microsoft Office focus on Excel spreadsheets including formulas, sorting large data sets and printing. Familiarity with automated procurement and inventory control systems. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and work with others in a team setting. Ability to meet deadlines within short timeframes, perform repetitive tasks for long periods of time, and work in a continually changing environment.

Compensation Range:

$16.18 - $22.65

Employee pay is based on a variety of factors, including qualifications, credentials, education, and prior work experience. The compensation range does not include benefits or pension plan.
