GSPH-Infectious Diseases & Microbiology - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - (26005038)

The laboratory of Drs. Kuchipudi and Lichtveld in the Department of Infectious Diseases and Microbiology (IDM) in Pitt Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate position. We are seeking a highly motivated scientist with a strong background in infectious diseases, molecular microbiology, virology, host–pathogen interactions, antimicrobial or antiviral therapeutics, and/or cell and molecular biology. Candidates with experience in antimicrobial peptides, molecular mechanisms of pathogen susceptibility or resistance, translational therapeutics, or infectious disease research are particularly encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will contribute to multidisciplinary research focused on understanding the molecular determinants of infectious disease and developing innovative strategies for prevention and treatment. Research opportunities may include studies of emerging and zoonotic pathogens, host–pathogen interactions, antimicrobial and antiviral therapeutics, vaccine and diagnostic development, and molecular mechanisms underlying pathogen transmission, pathogenesis, and host responses.

Ongoing research programs include influenza viruses, SARS-CoV-2 and other emerging viral pathogens, antimicrobial and antiviral discovery, and novel therapeutic approaches. Depending on the candidate's background and interests, there will be opportunities to contribute to both laboratory-based and computational/translational research and to develop new collaborative projects. The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative research environment within Pitt Public Health and the broader University of Pittsburgh biomedical research community, with access to state-of-the art BSL-2 and BSL-3 research facilities, core laboratories, computational resources, and interdisciplinary collaborations.
