We are looking for an experienced Controller to provide strategic accounting leadership and work closely with executive leadership to support both day-to-day operations and future business expansion. This Long-term Contract position is based in Lansing, Michigan, and is ideal for a finance specialist who can combine strong technical accounting knowledge with a practical, collaborative approach. The role will guide core accounting activities, reinforce financial governance, and deliver meaningful insight that helps leaders make informed decisions.

Responsibilities:
• Direct the full accounting function, ensuring financial activity is recorded accurately and reports are delivered on schedule.
• Lead, coach, and develop accounting staff by setting performance expectations and fostering ongoing career growth.
• Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual close cycles while improving the speed, reliability, and effectiveness of close-related processes.
• Prepare and review financial statements and supporting documentation, including key reports related to assets, liabilities, profitability, and cash flow.
• Establish and refine accounting policies, reporting procedures, and internal control practices to support consistency and compliance.
• Monitor adherence to U.S. GAAP, tax obligations, and other applicable financial regulations and reporting standards.
• Evaluate financial risk areas and strengthen control environments to protect the organization and improve accountability.
• Oversee accounting matters related to inventory, fixed assets, capital spending, and other significant balance sheet categories.
• Partner with the CFO and cross-functional leaders to provide analysis, planning support, and financial guidance for operational and strategic decisions.
• Drive process, reporting, and system enhancements, including support for acquisitions, new operations, or organizational changes when needed.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a closely related discipline.
• Active CPA certification is required.
• At least 10 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance roles.
• Minimum of 5 years leading accounting teams and supervising finance professionals.
• Strong command of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting practices, and internal control frameworks.
• Proven success managing month-end and year-end close activities and producing accurate financial statements.
• Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving ability, with sound judgment in financial decision-making.
• Experience with financial systems, bank reconciliations, FP& A support, reporting processes, and team supervision.

Compensation

$50.00-$65.00 Hourly
