Controller

We are looking for an experienced Controller to join our team on a contract basis. This role is ideal for someone with a strong finance background who brings strong accounting leadership, hands-on payroll expertise, and the ability to produce accurate financial reporting across multiple entities. The successful candidate will oversee core accounting activities, prepare meaningful internal reports for leadership and medical staff, and help maintain reliable financial operations. This role has a hybrid flexibility. Would want onsite for crossover training at first.

Responsibilities:

• Manage day-to-day accounting activities using QuickBooks Online across multiple operating entities and property-related companies within a unified reporting structure.

• Prepare timely financial packages, including profit and loss statements and balance sheets, for leadership review and decision-making.

• Administer bi-monthly payroll for approximately 150 employees through Paychex, including the accurate processing of recurring and weekly bonus payments.

• Maintain the general ledger and support accounting processes under a modified cash basis approach, including accruals for applicable long-term items.

• Develop and update internal fringe and compensation-related reporting for medical staff by using advanced Excel tools and analysis techniques.

• Review accounts payable work completed by part-time clerical staff to help ensure accuracy, completeness, and adherence to accounting procedures.

• Coordinate with external tax support resources by organizing financial data and assisting with information needed for outsourced tax-related activities.

• Monitor financial records across all assigned entities to support consistent reporting, reconciliations, and overall accounting integrity.

Qualifications:

• At least 7 years of progressive accounting or controllership experience in a hands-on finance environment.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
• Strong working knowledge of QuickBooks Online and experience managing multi-entity accounting records.
• Proven background in financial statement preparation, monthly reporting, and general ledger oversight.
• Demonstrated payroll processing experience, including use of Paychex for a sizeable employee population.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills with the ability to create detailed internal reports and perform financial analysis.
• Solid understanding of general accounting principles and practical experience working in a modified cash accounting environment.

Compensation

$50.00-$65.00 Hourly
