Accounts Payable Specialist

We are looking for an Accounts Payable Specialist to support a mission-driven nonprofit organization in College Point, New York. This Contract position is ideal for someone who can manage invoice processing, maintain accurate payment records, and contribute to smooth day-to-day accounting operations. The role offers an opportunity to work in the social services sector while helping ensure timely and compliant accounts payable activities.

Responsibilities:
• Process vendor invoices accurately and efficiently, ensuring all documentation is complete before entry and payment.
• Assign proper general ledger or program codes to invoices to support accurate financial reporting and expense tracking.
• Enter payable transactions into accounting platforms such as Bill.com and Financial Edge while maintaining organized records.
• Review invoices for accuracy, approval status, and compliance with internal payment procedures before submission.
• Coordinate with internal staff and external vendors to resolve discrepancies, clarify billing issues, and support timely payments.
• Prepare accounts payable batches and assist with payment scheduling to meet established deadlines and cash flow needs.
• Maintain up-to-date vendor files and supporting documentation to strengthen audit readiness and record integrity.

Qualifications:

• Previous experience handling full-cycle accounts payable functions in an accounting environment with a strong focus on accuracy and detail.
• Hands-on familiarity with Bill.com and Financial Edge for invoice entry, payment processing, or record maintenance.
• Ability to code invoices accurately using appropriate account or cost allocation structures.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage a high volume of transactions with accuracy.
• Proficiency in reviewing financial documents and identifying discrepancies before processing.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills for working with vendors and internal stakeholders.
• Experience supporting nonprofit, social care, or service-based organizations is an asset.

Compensation

$28.50-$33.00 Hourly
