Sr. Accountant

Compensation: $35.15 to $40.70 Hourly

We are looking for an experienced Sr. Accountant to support a mission-driven nonprofit organization in New York. This contract opportunity is ideal for a finance specialist who excels in maintaining accurate records, strengthening month-end processes, and ensuring timely reconciliations across key accounts. The role offers the chance to contribute meaningful accounting expertise in a social services environment while partnering with internal stakeholders to keep financial operations running smoothly.

Responsibilities:
• Oversee monthly closing activities by preparing and reviewing entries, tracking deadlines, and helping ensure complete and accurate financial reporting.
• Maintain the general ledger by recording transactions properly, resolving discrepancies, and supporting the integrity of account balances.
• Prepare journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation and verify that postings align with accounting standards and organizational policies.
• Reconcile bank accounts and other balance sheet accounts on a recurring basis, investigating variances and correcting issues promptly.
• Manage account reconciliation workpapers to support clean month-end reporting and improve visibility into outstanding items.
• Utilize Bill.com to process and monitor payment activity, ensuring transactions are accurately reflected in the accounting records.
• Work within Blackbaud to maintain financial data, generate reports, and support day-to-day accounting operations.
• Collaborate with finance team members and operational staff to gather information, answer accounting questions, and improve reporting accuracy.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience in a senior-level accounting role with responsibility for month-end close activities.
• Strong working knowledge of general ledger accounting, journal entry preparation, and account analysis.
• Hands-on experience completing bank reconciliations and resolving account discrepancies efficiently.
• Proficiency with Bill.com and Blackbaud in an accounting environment that requires strong attention to detail.
• Ability to organize multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced setting.
• Solid understanding of accounting principles and financial controls.
• Experience supporting nonprofit or social services organizations is preferred.

Compensation

$35.15-$40.70 Hourly
