Database Administrator

Robert Half is actively partnering with an Austin-based client to identify a Database Administrator (contract). In this role, you will be responsible for administering database platforms, optimizing performance, ensuring data integrity, and supporting engineering teams through proactive monitoring, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement initiatives. This role is hybrid in Austin, Tx. 

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and optimize database performance, including query tuning, indexing, and troubleshooting.
• Administer and maintain relational and NoSQL databases, including upgrades, backups, and patching.
• Manage backup, recovery, and disaster recovery processes to ensure data availability and integrity.
• Support production environments by resolving database issues and participating in incident response activities.
• Implement database security controls and support compliance and audit requirements.
• Develop monitoring, alerting, and automation solutions to improve system reliability and efficiency.
• Partner with Engineering, Infrastructure, and Product teams on database design, performance, and operational best practices.
• Provide guidance on data modeling, schema design, and database architecture to support business initiatives.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, or equivalent professional experience.
• 4+ years of experience in database administration or a related data infrastructure role.
• Strong experience supporting relational database platforms, including PostgreSQL or similar technologies.
• Experience working with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB or equivalent platforms.
• Expertise in database performance tuning, query optimization, indexing, and troubleshooting.
• Experience implementing backup, recovery, and disaster recovery solutions.
• Understanding of high-availability architectures and production support best practices.
• Knowledge of database security, access controls, and data protection methodologies.
• Experience with monitoring, observability, and performance management tools.
• Ability to work effectively in Agile and collaborative development environments.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to work across technical and non-technical teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience supporting large-scale, customer-facing production applications.
• Experience within highly regulated or data-intensive environments.
• Familiarity with cloud-based database platforms and infrastructure services.
• Experience with automation, scripting, and infrastructure management tools.
• Exposure to data warehousing, analytics, or business intelligence environments.
