Statement of Learning Outcomes for FWS Student Employees:

This federal work-study position in Grounds Maintenance will provide the student with hands-on experience in sustainable landscaping practices, directly contributing to MCC's strategic goal of fostering a more environmentally responsible campus. The student will develop practical skills in equipment operation, plant care, and campus beautification, enhancing their understanding of facilities management and its role in creating a welcoming and safe learning environment, thereby supporting MCC's commitment to student success and campus vitality. Furthermore, the experience will cultivate an appreciation for the importance of maintaining campus infrastructure, aligning with the college's strategic emphasis on effective resource stewardship and operational excellence.

Function of Position:

Reporting to the Grounds Supervisor, this position assists in providing general upkeep of outdoor spaces to ensure the functionality of the Grounds department.

This position may be funded through Federal Work Study (FWS) and/or departmental budgetary funds, depending on eligibility and departmental need. Federal Work Study applicants must be approved by the Financial Aid Office prior to employment consideration. If you are unsure of your FWS eligibility, please before applying. Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist with trash pickup
  • Assist with Weeding and Gardening
  • Assist with General Maintenance - cleaning outdoor areas, picking up litter, and ensuring common spaces look presentable
  • Assist with event setup and clean up - helping set up outdoor spaces for events
  • Assist with Minor outdoor repairs - painting

Job Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be currently enrolled as a student at Monroe Community College
  • Must maintain satisfactory academic progress and be in good academic standing
  • Federal Work Study eligibility is required for FWS-funded positions (must be approved by the Financial Aid Office prior to hire)
  • Attention to details

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Some experience in landscaping or general ground maintenance
  • Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently


Additional Information:

Pay Rate: $16.00/hour

Hours per Week: Up to 20 hours/week

Semester Hiring: Fall 2026
