Controller
Responsibilities:
• Lead core accounting oversight for the finance team, ensuring records are accurate, organized, and aligned with nonprofit reporting standards.
• Direct balance sheet reconciliations beginning with activity from January 1 and resolve outstanding discrepancies in a timely manner.
• Establish, refine, and document a dependable close process that supports consistency, accountability, and timely financial reporting.
• Provide hands-on support for cleanup of historical accounting issues, including unreconciled restricted net asset activity and other legacy balance concerns.
• Serve as the primary finance representative for accounting-related system implementation work and help align processes with operational needs.
• Coach and train finance staff on updated procedures, reconciliation practices, and close responsibilities to strengthen day-to-day execution.
• Partner with leadership to create a stronger financial foundation before a permanent controller is brought into the organization.
• Review grant, fund, and federal funding activity to help ensure proper classification, tracking, and compliance within the accounting records.
Qualifications:
• Demonstrated experience working as a Controller or senior-level accounting leader in a nonprofit environment.• Strong background in fund accounting, grant accounting, and accounting for federal funds.
• Proven expertise in account reconciliation and resolving complex balance sheet issues.
• Hands-on proficiency with Abila MIP and advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
• Ability to document accounting workflows and implement structured month-end close procedures.
• Experience training or mentoring accounting staff and improving team execution.
• Strong understanding of nonprofit accounting principles, including restricted net assets and related reporting considerations.
Compensation
