Staff Accountant

We are looking for a Staff Accountant to join a nonprofit organization on a Contract basis in New York, New York. This role will provide essential accounting support during a busy year-end and audit period, helping maintain accurate financial records and timely reporting. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting skills, hands-on experience with Intacct and Excel, and the ability to contribute effectively in a deadline-driven environment.

Responsibilities:
• Prepare and record journal entries to support daily and period-end accounting activity with a high degree of accuracy.
• Reconcile bank accounts, cash balances, and general ledger accounts to ensure financial data is complete and reliable.
• Assist with month-end and year-end close processes by organizing schedules, reviewing account activity, and resolving discrepancies.
• Support audit preparation by gathering documentation, responding to auditor requests, and helping maintain orderly financial records.
• Partner with internal stakeholders to provide accounting support related to grants and other funding-related reporting needs.
• Perform ad hoc financial analysis and account research to help address variances and support decision-making.
• Maintain accurate general ledger activity within Intacct and help ensure transactions are properly classified and posted.

Qualifications:

• At least 3 years of accounting experience, including hands-on work in general ledger and close activities.
• Prior experience in a nonprofit environment is strongly preferred.
• Proficiency with Intacct is required.
• Advanced Excel skills, including the ability to work efficiently with large data sets and reconciliations.
• Demonstrated experience preparing journal entries and completing bank and cash reconciliations.
• Familiarity with year-end close and audit support processes.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines in a Contract role.

Compensation

$27.71-$32.09 Hourly
