Collections Clerk

You don't have to be a “collections person” to be great at collections.

A busy property management organization in San Marcos is looking for a Collections Clerk to help monitor tenant accounts and resolve outstanding balances.

This role combines customer service, accounting, and problem-solving, making it a strong fit for someone who enjoys working with people but also wants a position that has clear financial responsibilities.

You'll communicate with tenants, property managers, and internal accounting teams to research balances, identify discrepancies, and keep accounts moving toward resolution.

Your responsibilities

• Monitor tenant accounts and outstanding balances
• Review aging reports for overdue accounts
• Contact customers regarding unpaid balances
• Send account statements and payment reminders
• Research payment discrepancies and account history
• Document collection activity in the property management system
• Coordinate with Property Managers regarding account issues
• Process account adjustments when approved
• Assist with payment posting and account reconciliation
• Respond to customer questions regarding balances
• Track payment arrangements and follow-up dates
• Prepare recurring collections reports

Qualifications:

The ideal candidate

• 1–2 years of collections, billing, customer service, or accounting experience
• Strong written and verbal communication
• Comfortable discussing money and outstanding balances professionally
• Strong attention to detail
• Good Excel and computer skills
• Able to handle confidential account information
• Organized and persistent without being confrontational
• Property management or real estate experience is a plus
