Collections Clerk
You don't have to be a “collections person” to be great at collections.
A busy property management organization in San Marcos is looking for a Collections Clerk to help monitor tenant accounts and resolve outstanding balances.
This role combines customer service, accounting, and problem-solving, making it a strong fit for someone who enjoys working with people but also wants a position that has clear financial responsibilities.
You'll communicate with tenants, property managers, and internal accounting teams to research balances, identify discrepancies, and keep accounts moving toward resolution.
Your responsibilities
- Monitor tenant accounts and outstanding balances
- Review aging reports for overdue accounts
- Contact customers regarding unpaid balances
- Send account statements and payment reminders
- Research payment discrepancies and account history
- Document collection activity in the property management system
- Coordinate with Property Managers regarding account issues
- Process account adjustments when approved
- Assist with payment posting and account reconciliation
- Respond to customer questions regarding balances
- Track payment arrangements and follow-up dates
- Prepare recurring collections reports
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate
- 1–2 years of collections, billing, customer service, or accounting experience
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Comfortable discussing money and outstanding balances professionally
- Strong attention to detail
- Good Excel and computer skills
- Able to handle confidential account information
- Organized and persistent without being confrontational
- Property management or real estate experience is a plus
