Collections Specialist

Ready to take ownership of a portfolio instead of chasing one invoice at a time?

A growing construction services company in Valley Center is looking for an experienced Collections Specialist to take ownership of outstanding commercial accounts. This is a more hands-on position for someone who understands that successful collections are about more than making phone calls — it's about understanding the account, identifying what's holding up payment, and finding a path toward resolution.

You'll partner with Accounting, Project Management, Sales, and customers to resolve everything from disputed invoices to missing documentation and delayed payments.

You'll take the lead on

📊 Account Management

Review aging reports and prioritize accounts based on balance, age, and payment history.

📞 Customer Outreach

Communicate with customers by phone and email regarding overdue balances.

🧩 Problem Solving

Investigate disputes, deductions, credits, unapplied payments, and billing questions.

🤝 Internal Partnerships

Work with Project Managers and Accounting to gather documentation and resolve customer issues.

💰 Cash Flow

Follow up on commitments and help reduce outstanding receivables.

Qualifications:

• Manage a portfolio of commercial customer accounts
• Review aging reports and develop collection priorities
• Conduct regular collection outreach
• Negotiate payment arrangements when appropriate
• Research disputed invoices and account discrepancies
• Work with Billing and Project Management to resolve documentation issues
• Track promised payments and follow up on missed commitments
• Reconcile customer accounts and identify unapplied cash
• Prepare account summaries and collections reports
• Escalate high-risk or significantly delinquent accounts
• Assist with month-end AR reporting
• Recommend improvements to the company's collections process

What you'll bring

• 3+ years of collections, accounts receivable, or credit experience
• Experience managing a portfolio of business-to-business accounts
• Strong understanding of aging, payment applications, and account reconciliation
• Excellent negotiation and communication skills
• Strong Excel and accounting system experience
• Comfortable handling difficult conversations professionally
• Highly organized with strong follow-through
• Construction, commercial services, manufacturing, or B2B experience preferred
