RANK/TITLE:
Assistant Professor (1-5 years of experience), Associate Professor (6-10 years of experience) or Professor (10+ years of experience ) (tenure/nontenure).
DEPARTMENT/DIVISION:
- The Division of Anatomic Pathology of UPMC, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) and University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine (UPSOM) is recruiting for a Pathologist in the Head and Neck Pathology Center of Excellence (COE).
- The position will be in the appointment stream academic clinical track. The candidate needs to have subspecialty training and academic interest in Head and Neck Surgical Pathology.
- The Head and Neck Pathology Center of Excellence (COE) consists of Four Head and Neck Pathologists and is known for its expertise in neoplastic and non-neoplastic Head and Neck diseases. This COE processes over 3,500 Head and Neck cases per year and serves as a local, regional and national consultation reference laboratory including telepathology.
- The Head and Neck Pathology COE has very close ties with the Head and Neck Surgical and Medical Oncology groups. The University of Pittsburgh Head and Neck Team has a very strong record of Federal and Industry funding and collaborations and has been consistently funded as a SPORE (Specialized Program Of Research Excellence) program, one of the highest research designation s and pragmatic funding by the NIH.
• The potential to engage with and support the multidisciplinary head and neck research team, including on programmatic grants, is expected.
- The Head and Neck COE offers a one-year ACGME accredited Head and Neck Pathology Fellowship program.
- This position is based at UPMC Presbyterian-Shadyside Hospitals, which primarily provides diagnostic support to the Hillman Cancer Center.
- The Dept. of Pathology at UPMC has a well-established Molecular, Digital and Computational Pathology infrastructure and resources. There is ongoing investment in Digital Pathology and AI applications in Pathology.
- Candidates would have extensive oversight and involvement in translational pathology utilizing the shared resources of our Imaging and Digital Pathology Laboratories, Molecular Anatomic Pathology and FISH laboratories.
- Individuals would be provided with guaranteed protected time.
- The successful candidate will be expected to participate in and provide leadership and guidance to develop and leverage diagnostic and research initiatives using available resources.
JOB DUTIES:
• Work closely with the Head and Neck COE Director related to service roles and participation in the functioning of Head and Neck COE Pathology service and operations.
• Participate in various COE specific meetings at UPMC/Hillman Cancer Center.
• Represent the Dept. nationally and internationally.
• Mentor and teach Head and Neck Pathology fellows and Pathology residents.
• Sign out of surgical pathology cases, as needed.
• Participate in research initiatives, as needed.
• Be aligned, participate and work towards deliverance of the mission and goals of the Dept.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Must have an M.D./DO and Board certified in Anatomic Pathology with specialty training and academic interest in thoracic pathology.
• Eligibility for medical licensure in Pennsylvania is required.
• A good record of and commitment to scholarly activities and publications.
SALARY AND BENEFITS:
Salary will be commensurate with experience.
Full-time faculty member at the University of Pittsburgh as well as a participant in the UPMC/UPP faculty practice plan.
