Lutron Electronics Co., Inc has an immediate opening for a highly motivated Mechanical Engineering Leader in Boston, MA.  In this role, you would be a key part of leading engineers developing innovative and high-quality products that maintain and expand our market position as the world leader in automated lighting and shades.  You will have the opportunity to join a dynamic group, not only learning from experiences and from one another, but providing mentorship to the team to expand their knowledge and capability. As a technical leader, you will be counted on to develop the engineering talent and strengthen the team’s capabilities.  Our engineers contribute to all phases of the product life cycle from initial concept and prototyping of product and tooling to supporting production. Responsibilities

  • Oversee engineering of efficient, scalable, and high-quality systems upon which world-class products can easily be built.
  • Integrate all aspects of design: aesthetics, function, user interface, manufacturability, lifecycle.
  • Assure a high standard of quality in your own work and in the work of your team members via good design practices, process improvements, world class safety, and smart testing and review practices.
  • Supervise, mentor, and coach colleagues to expand the effectiveness of those around you, while mentoring engineers and providing feedback on performance. 
  • Lead by example.  Take a hands-on role in helping the team meet its deliverables. Develop team members by actively working beside them to complete their tasks.
  • Champion clear, concise communication of technical information backed by deep fundamental understanding of the underlying principles.
  • Identify cost reduction and product improvement opportunities.
  • Assure effective use of 3D modeling, FEA, tolerance analysis, DFM,FMEA to meet project goals. Rapidly iterate through the design process to arrive at a solution that meets cost, quality and delivery objectives while meeting key product specifications.
  • Collaborate with team members cross-functionally in our manufacturing facilities and other locations to introduce new products and components, using your excellent communication skills.
  • Identify, propose, and implement improvements to the tools, equipment, and lab space to ensure the effectiveness of mechanical engineering function in the office.
  • Work closely with our purchasing team and vendors to source and qualify production tooling.
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing and customer issues with your enthusiastic, creative, and resilient problem-solving skills.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, materials, manufacturing methods, and industry trends.

Qualifications



  • BS in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or Engineering Science
  • Minimum, cumulative GPA of 3.00 for all degrees earned 
  • 10 or more years of industry experience in the field of mechanical product design.  Experience with high-quality, high-volume consumer products is a plus.
  • Thorough knowledge of mechanical engineering fundamentals (beam bending, static analysis, material properties, heat transfer, etc.)
  • Familiarity and hands-on experience with various manufacturing processes including injection molding, stamping, forming, extrusion, and machining
  • Willingness to travel 10% of the time, sometimes with limited notice, to support our customers and the needs of the business.
  • You are authorized to work in the U.S. and will not require Lutron to sponsor you for any work visa, such as an H-1B, either immediately or at any time in the future. Lutron does not offer work visa sponsorship for this position.  

 

Starting pay: $133,500 - $167,500 per year; Lutron's employee benefits include 401k match, health, dental, and life insurance, paid vacation (amount based on tenure with the company), flexible spending accounts, and tuition reimbursement programs.
