QualificationsFederal Architect (Hybrid | Norfolk, VA)
RS&H is seeking an experienced, licensed Architect to join our Federal Architecture team in Norfolk, Virginia. This is a hybrid position, offering the flexibility of working both remotely and from our Norfolk office while supporting the planning, design, and delivery of facilities for federal clients.
As a key member of our Buildings team, you will lead and contribute to complex federal architectural projects from concept development through construction administration. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, provide technical leadership, maintain strong client relationships, and help deliver innovative, mission-focused solutions that support federal agencies and their evolving needs.
Responsibilities:
• Support the planning, design, and execution of architectural projects for federal clients.
• Lead architectural design efforts from conceptual development through construction completion.
• Coordinate with project managers, architects, engineers, and other disciplines to develop effective technical solutions.
• Prepare and support proposals, fee estimates, and project pursuits.
• Ensure project deliverables meet contract requirements, quality standards, and client expectations.
• Develop architectural designs and technical documentation for projects with unique or complex requirements.
• Serve as a technical resource and subject matter expert on specialized architectural systems and design solutions.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, stakeholders, and project teams throughout all project phases.
• Review work prepared by junior staff for technical accuracy and provide mentorship and guidance.
• Perform quality control reviews, field observations, site inspections, and construction phase support.
• Lead multidisciplinary teams and may supervise a small group of direct reports.
Required Qualifications:
To be successful in this role, you must:
• Have a degree in Architecture from an NAAB-accredited program or equivalent experience.
• Have 10 years' experience, including working on parts of major projects or multiple, moderate-sized projects, providing technical guidance to entry/junior-level staff, reviewing others' work for technical accuracy, and participating in the design and implementation of new products, processes, standards, and/or operational plans that had great impact on the achievement of functional results.
• Possess an active architectural license in good standing and demonstrate knowledge of state and local building codes, zoning laws, fire regulations, and other relevant ordinances.
• Be proficient in production software and construction document production.
• Have a passion for formulating and solving problems with timely and innovative solutions.
• Have proven ability successfully addressing challenging issues in a sound professional and business-like manner.
• Possess strong oral and written communication skills and have the ability to effectively interact with and build strong relationships with clients, customers, contractors, team members, and other key stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Master's degree from an accredited institution in a relevant area of focus.
• Experience supporting federal facilities, military installations, Department of Defense projects, or other government clients is highly desirable.
• Familiarity with federal design standards, client requirements, and multidisciplinary project delivery environments is a plus.

The salary range for this position is $120,000–$140,000 per year, representing the employer’s goodfaith estimate at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be based on jobrelated skills, experience, internal equity, and geographic location, where applicable.
This role may also be eligible for additional compensation and benefits, including medical, dental, and vision coverage, an employee assistance program, retirement and financial protection programs (401(k), short and longterm disability), paid time off (including holidays and paid parental leave), and HSA funding up to $1,200 annually.
