Accounts Payable Specialist

We are looking for an Accounts Payable Specialist to support a busy education-focused organization in Wisconsin. This Long-term Contract opportunity is ideal for someone who can manage invoice processing, payment activity, and coding accuracy with consistency and care. The role offers the chance to contribute to day-to-day financial operations while helping maintain organized and timely accounts payable functions.

Responsibilities:
• Review incoming invoices, verify supporting details, and process payables accurately within established timelines.
• Assign proper general ledger codes and ensure expenses are recorded to the correct accounts.
• Prepare and execute payment activities, including ACH transactions and scheduled check runs.
• Reconcile vendor statements, investigate discrepancies, and resolve payment-related issues in a timely manner.
• Maintain complete and organized accounts payable records to support reporting and audit readiness.
• Communicate with internal departments and external vendors to answer questions and clarify invoice or payment details.
• Monitor outstanding items and help keep accounts payable workflows current, accurate, and compliant with internal procedures.

Qualifications:

• At least 3 years of experience in accounts payable or a closely related accounting support role.
• Hands-on experience processing invoices, coding expenses, and supporting high-volume payment activity.
• Working knowledge of ACH payments, check processing, and standard accounts payable controls.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify errors and maintain accurate financial records.
• Comfortable using accounting systems and spreadsheet tools to manage daily tasks efficiently.
• Effective communication skills for collaborating with vendors and internal team members.
• Ability to prioritize responsibilities, meet deadlines, and work independently in a contract assignment.
