Roush has an immediate need within our Vehicle Engineering department for a Mechanical Design Engineer II to join our team. The Mechanical Design Engineer II is a broad role that requires working on a variety of engineering programs. The role works on projects for large and small customers to meet the customers' timelines. The Mechanical Design Engineer II works in a team environment to understand each customer’s unique needs and mentors and oversees team member’s technical deliverables to ensure Roush and customer standards are met. .

As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will:

  • Translate customer needs to design requirements and to feasible design concepts and apply relevant engineering analysis to design components and subsystems
  • Design and evolve mechanical systems from concept to prototype level
  • Manage CAD resources to develop 3D models and 2D prints
  • Conduct hardware development tasks including testing
  • Utilize Computer Aided Engineering resources to validate designs analytically
  • Document & report status internally and externally to customers
  • Provide leadership, guidance, coaching, and technical support to team members
  • Work hands-on in a mechanical environment

To be considered for as a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Must be a US citizen or US lawful permanent resident allowing for ITAR compliance
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in automotive, aerospace, or related industry experience
  • Advanced knowledge of mechanical systems, specifically modern powertrain operation (both ICE
    and EV systems), and a strong interest in all things mechanical
  • Hands-on troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Ability to provide solutions to complex problems outside your comfort zone in a timely and cost-effective manner
  • Experienced and skilled in the development, use and maintenance of DFMEAs (Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis), DVP&Rs (Design Verification Plan & Reports/Failure Mode), DFM (Design for Manufacturing), and FEA (Finite Element Analysis)
  • Ability to work on multiple programs at once
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite
  • Superb verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey complex technical data to various audiences
  • Able to perform effectively in a team environment

A successful Mechanical Design Engineer may also have:

  • Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • Simulation experience (FEA, physics-based modeling or similar)
  • Hands-on ICE, hybrid and/or electric vehicle development experience
